Your Birthday!

Here we are the day that you let me know that we would get to meet you within hours...little did I know it would be FORTY-THREE hours later:) My first contraction was at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, but still 20 to 30 minutes apart according to your Dad's meticulous work on the stop watch, so we decided to enjoy the day.

We watched the London Summer Olympics together where your mom gained inspiration and motivation for one of the greatest events of her life, as well as  a  ravenous appetite!

A trip Bob Evan's was in order.  We consumed delicious "All You Can Eat Pancakes."

Those are Cinnamon Pancakes... for anyone wondering if a rodent got into the Bob Evans kitchen! :) Then we walked around Wyoga Lake, enjoyed the sunshine, and rested at the lake for a before calling it a day.

I absolutely could not sleep from the anticipation of being so close to  seeing your beautiful face and holding you in my arms! The contractions also got stronger and closer together at 2:00 AM that night, so we waited a little longer and then your dad finally convinced me that we should call the doctor at 5:00.  We were so excited, and got all our bags together.  Before we went out the door, we sat to check on those Olympics.  I fell asleep on the couch, so your dad decided we should wait.

When I woke up at  9:00, we decided to go to the hospital!

When we arrived, the triage nurse was surprised to see that I was already 5 cm and 80%. She gave us a little brown hat that she made to put on you whenever you arrived, and she encouraged us that most mommies at that stage have a baby pretty quickly.

You had other plans for us, though! You were a stubborn little guy that did not want make your big debut--even after they broke my water, started pitocin, and then quickly maxed out the pitocin dose.  At about 4:00 pm your mom decided it was time to get an epidural because there was no sign of you coming anytime soon!

She got a great nap and a few hours later, Doctor O'Shea arrived and we got ready to meet you. You again had to make this part even a bit dramatic.  You decreased your heart rate a few times because you aspirated, so they decided they needed to use the suction to get you out...and they finally did!

Here you are, Reid David Vincent!

Monday, August 6, 2012 at 8:51 p.m.

You were 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 20 inches long.

We had looked forward to this for so long and had loved you so much already.  We couldn't believe how much more love we felt the moment we saw you.

You were whisked away so quickly all your daddy and I really saw was that you had a ton of dark hair:) As they took you over to the corner of our room and made sure you were breathing okay, we first heard your little raspy cry.  Your Dad wanted to see you but he also wanted to be with your Mommy, who had been so strong as she nurtured and carried you in her belly and as she brought you into the world that day.

It took about 30 minutes for them to suction you and give you a little oxygen, but while they were working on you your Dad was right there by both our sides. That was the longest 30 minutes of your Mommy's life, but it made that moment of finally having you in my arms and looking into your dark blue eyes all the more incredible.

Everyone admired all of your long, dark hair (which is UNDER the hat that only looks like a lot of hair...) Having all that hair was good because it covered the little bruise from the vacuum.

Here's our very first Family Photo.

You were very alert that first evening--and not nearly as squished as expected!

Your Grandma and Grandpa Klein and Auntie Bethany couldn't believe how much you were looking around at everyone and everything.

We were so happy and grateful to see how healthy you were--curly feet and all!

After your first visitors, it was bed time already!  The nurses helped mommy and daddy get all set for bed, and we wanted you right by our side on your first night so they brought your crib into our room.

Mommy thought it was funny how often Daddy "JUMPED" up off the couch-sleeper to look into your little crib that night--with every little noise you made and "every" little breath.

But that's not all--you should have seen his late-night diaper change fiasco!  Mommy and Daddy were both about half asleep when they got up to change you, and you had your first big blowout (one of your first firsts!! )    :)

Mommy asked Daddy to get a wet wash cloth.  He responded in a totally coo/frantic way, and while he grabbed a cloth, he put down your ointment somewhere.  Uh oh...

A few seconds later when Mommy asked him for the ointment, his world immediately crumbled.

He darted around the room like a fire alarm was going off, throwing his gangly arms all around and searching EVERYWHERE for that precious OINTMENT!!!!

Finally, relief came.  He located it--on the bathroom sink.

He brought it to Mommy, realized his mistake, and admitted he had no idea where it went because, as he said, "Sorry, I just panicked..."

(P.S. Yes, we know that you, like everyone else, will not find that story NEARLY as funny as Mommy does.)

You and Mommy got some rest before a full day of family and friends excited to meet you!  Grammy and Grampy Vincent came in the morning and gave you the green sweater Grammy crocheted just for you!  Auntie Beth happened to be in town when you were born, so she could stop to see you on her way home.  Good timing little buddy!

Auntie Kateri and Uncle Paul came that afternoon, and they brought their camera to take some great photos of you and all of us on your first day!

You met Auntie Tori and Uncle Dan that evening!

Great Grandma and Grandpa Klein were happy to meet great their fifth great-grandchild.

Auntie Rachel met her first nephew!

(Not pictured: Auntie Christina who began spoiling you from that day forward!)

Our hospital room beautified by flowers from Grandma Klein, Christina, and Daddy!

Ready to go home!

Dad gave you a little pep talk about your first car ride.

You made it--our little special delivery!

Fist pump for your first business meeting, with Stick-on tie courtesy of Aunt Kateri and Uncle Paul!

Day one in your new place:

Loving your lambie swing, on SUPER high swing mode...

Cozy in a crib passed through the generations since the 1800's thanks to Great Grandma Bevan!

First time meeting the Klein boys!

Casey, Evan, and Drew were so excited to see you and touch your itty-bitty hands and feet.

And you were equally so excited when Drew held you that you peed your pants, which leaked on Drew!

First pair of jeans...

Dad managed to miss your big, big toe.  You'd think he would be good at this since he passed those finger-toes on to you!

Grandpa admiring your superior neck skills!

Your cousin Evan liked to sing you a song each of the first few times he held you--Twinkle, Twinkle in this one...

First visit to Grandma and Grandpa Klein's house where we sized you up to the (REAL) mashed potatoes--your mommy's favorite food!

Grandma and Grandpa before your first field walk--with bonus rough, construction terrain!

First visit with Great Grammy Read.

Grampy trying to dazzle you with (all) his best faces!  ...you can see how impressed you were.

First time meeting cousin Chloe, who really excelled at putting your pacifier in your mouth.

Newborn pictures at 1 week:

The Perfect Swaddle.

Dad perfected them.
Along with the shushing.
And you loved them both!

Grandpa wasn't the only one admiring your neck skills.  Here you are doing tummy time with mommy at one week!

You loved bath time too! Here's your first bath...

Auntie Christina and Andy came bearing gifts as usual.

Uncle Andy's arm was especially cozy...

You met Great Uncle Jim on your first trip to G-ville and Grammy and Grampy's.

You in your car seat BEFORE we bought your "neck brace":

First trip to Great Grandma and Grandpa Klein's for a summer picnic.

You with Uncle Josh, experienced father-advisor of your dad!

First time meeting Great Grandma Bevan, who complimented mom and dad on a nice "finished product"!

You had SOME blond hair from Mommy!!

BIG smiles and first little laughs at dad's funny looking face!

Mommy loved your cute lil' yawns...

Here you are happy with yourself after shooting dad with a little geyser!  It happened almost every day, but only to Dad!

After-bath crazy hair!  Your hair was always quite fluffy after bath time...

First bottle at four weeks.  Dad did great, and so did you.

At four weeks you were roughly the size of a couch cushion.

Loungin'

1 month went fast! Shocked even yourself!

Dad got a little tired of shushing... there was an app for that!  Hence, the iPhone in the bouncer...

Model pose for first day in clothe diapers!

Favorite daddy holding position from day 1--head hanging over arm, taking it all in (see hospital picture, too!)

No you do not have mini legs with square feet.  You were growing big and tall, too tall for newborn sleepers at 6 weeks.
95th percentile for length!

Cheering on the Competitors at the Labor Day Games!

At six weeks, you started to give us real smiles--on purpose!  You recognized how hilarious your parents are at an early age.  You also liked this favorite spot on the changing table, with a nice view of a 3-star, Twinkle Twinkle mobile... but mostly you liked your parents.

Before the purposeful smiles for us, other winners were the ceiling fan, the window behind the couch, the mantle with its shiny vases, and the big piece of Art in the front room.

At six weeks, doing your favorite lawnmower/sprinkler dance...

Happy Second Birthday Cousin Casey! And 7-weeks to you!

He was so excited to be with his cousin Reid that he made funny little nervous laugh noises and kept reaching toward for you saying "Baby!"

Your rooster tails begin!

You really started stretching and pushing up with your legs at 7 weeks.

Favorite snuggle position with mommy.

You absolutely loved the fresh air and going for walks outside where you would fall asleep as we bumped along in your stroller down the sidewalk.

Your first picture with the great Wyoga Lake!
